The photograph shows local-style rice on a leaf with a red pepper stew and pieces of protein. This home-cooking version pairs Ofada rice with a coarse pepper sauce and assorted meat; unlike green ayamase, its pepper base is red.

Ingredients for four: 2 cups dry Ofada rice, 500 g assorted beef or offal, 4 red bell peppers, 2–3 hot peppers to taste, 2 onions, 4 tablespoons palm oil, 1 tablespoon ground crayfish, salt and seasoning. Clean food-safe leaves are optional for serving.

Preparation — 60–75 minutes: pick and rinse the rice, then boil in plenty of water until tender, following the rice packet's guidance. Drain. Season the meat with one onion and simmer until fully cooked and tender, keeping some stock.

Coarsely blend the peppers and remaining onion. Warm the palm oil gently without bleaching or smoking it, add the pepper mix and cook, stirring, until reduced. Add crayfish, meat and a little stock; simmer for 10–15 minutes and adjust the seasoning.

Estimated cost to prepare: ₦8,000–₦11,000 total, about ₦2,000–₦2,750 per serving. Rice and assorted meat are the main expenses. Choosing one affordable protein instead of several can reduce the budget.

Costs are illustrative October 2026 Nigerian home-cooking budgets, not verified market quotes. They cover the ingredients used and a small cooking-fuel allowance for four servings, not equipment or full packs of pantry staples. Prices vary by location, season and protein choice.
